The Prince Edward Island Breast Cancer Information Partnership and its affiliate organizations strive to stay active in communities across the Island. The following news items and events reflect the special events and programs we participate in. PEIBCIP donates books to provincial libraries Monday, January 2, 2012 The Prince Edward island Breast Cancer Information Partnership has donated over 20 books about advanced breast cancer to libraries across PEI. These books can be ordered at local libraries or at home on the library website www.library.pe.ca The Prince Edward island Breast Cancer Information Partnership is comprised of volunteers representing major stakeholders in the PEI breast cancer community. The are committed to ensuring that easily accessible, reliable and current information about early detection, treatment and follow-up care of breast cancer is available to those affect by breast cancer in PEI. Member organizations include Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Division; PEI Breast Cancer Support Groups, Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (PEI), PEI Breast Screening Program, Canadian Breast Cancer Network, and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. PEIBCIP has provided "Sunflower Seeds of Knowledge" information kits to all women newly diagnosed with breast cancer in PEI since 1999. They have now prepared a similar kit for women diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. The donated books are mentioned in this kit as recommended resources. Books have also been donated to the QEH and PCH oncology clinics. PEIBCIP Chair, Eileen Fulford, says "We are very pleased to be working with the PEI Public Libraries to make these resources available to women in all communities of Prince Edward island. It is an ideal partnership for us; it will allow women in all areas of the province to access and benefit from this information." The books include: Advanced Breast Cancer by Musa Mayer Lymphedema by Jeanner Burt and Gwen White When a Parent is Sick: Helping Parents Explain Serious Illness to Children by Joan Hamilton The Silent Beast Within: The Trials and Tribulations of a Two-Time Breast Cancer Survivor by Brenda E. Rocker The Breast Cancer Book of Strength and Courage by Ernie Bodai, M.D. and Judie Fertig Panneton Lynn Front to Back by Lynn Kohlman |
